Blogger Machampali Sparks Debates Online After Claiming Coast Artistes Cannot Fill Up Local Clubs
Celebrated Mombasa-based media personality Michael Machampali has caused a melee online after dropping his sentiments on the growth of the music industry down at the Coast.
The blogger, who has been in the industry for close to a decade recently challenged industry players in the general Coast entertainment industry by claiming there is no artist in Mombasa who can fill up local clubs.
Speaking during an interview with Pwani FM, Machampali dared any artiste who can fill up a local club alone to do so and he will refund the incurred logistics cost.
“Hakuna Msanii wa hapa Mombasa yuko na uwezo wa kujaza club yeyote ile hapa Mombasa.” Machampali said.
His sentiments did not sit well with a number of Mombasa’s industry players and music fans who took to their pages to fault the blogger.
Dancehall Beast Frankie Dee’s manager Vincent Kras took to his page to blast Machampali for being inconsiderate with his sentiments.
According to Kras, it was unfortunate for such comments to come from such a refined journalist who has been in the industry for many years.
Kras reiterated that Machampali should just enjoy his “retirement” in peace and keep his nose off in Mombasa entertainment industry’s affairs.
“Very lame statement from someone that went irrelevant 5 yrs ago trying to belittle artists to gain relevance. You were doing well but ukasahau ku upgrade kutoka kwa machampali uanze kuvaa maviatu.” Wrote Vincent Kras.
Vincent was backed up by singer Masauti who urged Machampali to avoid discouraging local artistes and entertainment investors but instead push them in whatever capacity he can.
“Mykol Baya Machampali lkn haya mambo si tulisema tumeacha mbona mtu mpk utaje wasanii ilimradi uwe kwa headline unajuwa unakosesha wasanii wangapi riziki kwa mapromoters wakiona kitu kama hii bro sio sawa,” Masauti opined.
Following the back and forth online, KOM.co.ke reached out to Machampali who clarified his initial remarks.
Machampali disclosed that people who were fighting him only read the headline provided by Pwani FM but did not get the context hence their reaction.
According to the scribe, all he meant was that music lovers down at the Coast should support their artistes more by patronising their events.
Through this, local artiste will be able to fill up local clubs.
“Our people did not really want to understand my point past the headline. They did not get me or the context. I meant we need to support our own even more so that they can have solid fanbass which they can use to bag shows and other deals” Machampali told KOM.co.ke.
