Kenyans Elated As Grammy Awards Recognises Rapper Nazizi

Necessary Noize’s artist Nazizi has taken to social media to accept and smell her roses after she was honoured by Grammy Awards.

It goes without saying that it is every artist’s dream to bag a Grammy or even get featured in any of their many projects.

Well, luck recently dropped on Nazizi whom Grammy Awards included in the list of revolutionary female music acts, labeling her as the First Lady of Kenyan Rap in a recent article that has fast gone viral.

KOM.co.ke understands Nazizi recently featured in a Grammy Awards article that appreciated the efforts made by various female music acts from Africa who shaped the industry in one way or another.

Through the article, Grammy Awards described the rapper as one of the women at the forefront as far as pushing and promoting hip hop music globally.

Nazizi Hirji is known as the First Lady of Kenyan Rap for becoming the first successful female artist in her country at age 16. Mariam of the Malian duo Amadou and Mariam created a distinctive sound by fusing elements of hip hop and traditional Malian music. Africa’s hip hop community is ever-evolving, and women are at the forefront. The feature excited Nazizi who could not help but share the glory with her fans on social media.

Accepting the honour, Nazizi thanked Grammy Awards and her fans for believing in her throughout the years.

The rapper noted that it has always been her pleasure to inspire a generation of super talented rappers trying to break the glass ceiling.

Nazizi urged upcoming female rappers to keep pushing as their day is coming.

“When the Grammys big you up for your role in the foundation of hip hop in Africa! And yeah, so proud to have inspired a generation of dope emcees like Nadia Nakai. If you told teenage Naz this would happen one day she would probably just laugh and say in your wildest dreams. Keep dreaming and blessed Women’s History Month.” She wrote.
