Nonini Advises Upcoming Artistes To Register Own CMOs If They Want To Make Millions From Their Art
US-based Kenyan rapper Nonini has taken his time to offer valuable counsel to upcoming artistes hours after Kenya Copyrights Board (KECOBO) opened applications for registration of Collective Management Organisations (CMOs).
Nonini advised upcoming artistes and other creatives to apply for the CMOs licences from KECOBO and launch their own Collective Management Organisations (CMOs) if they really want to make millions from their crafts.
Indirectly, Nonini insinuated that the current CMOs namely MCSK, PRISK and KAMP have been sleeping on the job and stealing artistes’ royalties while at it.
In a tweet accessed by KOM.co.ke, the rapper said the stage had been set for upcoming artistes and it is now their chance to change things as far as collection of their revenues is concerned.
He reiterated that things will be better for young creatives if they include young professionals who will run things seamlessly in the newly-registered CMOs.
“Word of advice to Gen Z in the music industry! Sai wanafaa washikane and they register their own organization with young educated professionals and challenge these MCSK, Kamp and Prisk @KenyaCopyright
The stage has been set 🔥🔥🔥” He tweeted.
Nonini’s word of advice was echoed by fellow Kenyan celebrities and other music lovers who called on young creatives to grab the opportunity and change their live through arts.
His post came just hours after KECOBO announced that interested and competent parties could apply for licences to run CMOs in the country.
It should be noted Nonini has been on the forefront in fighting the current CMOs MCSK, PRISK and KAMP by calling for accountability.
The rapper just like many of his colleagues had earlier accused the CMOs, specifically MSCK of squandering artistes royalties and distributing peanuts to them in the name of royalties.
The rot in the CMOs was so much that KECOBO and the government had to intervene in a bid to find a better solution.
