Poet Willie Oeba To Earn KSh 3.3 Million For Representing Kenya In The Ford Global Fellowship

Revered spoken-word poet Willie Oeba has been selected to represent Kenya in the 2024 Ford Global Fellowship.

KOM.co.ke has learnt Oeba will be representing Kenya alongside Gender Advocate Ashura Michael.

The two are among 26 other people who were specifically selected as 2024 members of the Ford Global Fellowship.

According to Ford Global Fellowship, an American-based organisation, the members will stand a chance to get a stipend of KSh 3.3 million each in the period they will be in the fellowship.

It should be noted that Willie Oeba and Ashura Michael and the other new members, now dubbed The Ford Global Fellows will enjoy the opportunity to connect and support the next generation of leaders from across the globe.

This, they will be doing by advancing the foundation’s goal of ending inequality.

According to information on Ford Global Fellowship, the organisation invested over KSh 6.6 billion in providing emerging leaders with networks, tools and solidarity they need to effectively advance social justice.

Since it’s launch in 2020, Ford Global Fellowship has been striving to create a formidable team of 240 fellow through its investment period of 10 years.

The other members from the African continent selected in this year’s cohort include Nigeria’s Chioma Agwuegbo, Farai Morobane and Dr. Okito Wedi (South Africa), Musa Kika and Namatai Kwekweza from Zimbabwe and Sylvia Arthur from Ghana.

News of Oeba and Michael’s selection to the fellowship impressed and inspired countless Kenyans who took to different social media platforms to laud the two.
